“TOO TALL ALICE” WINS PRESTIGIOUS
2009 MOONBEAM CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARD

(GLEN ROCK, NJ, /MediaQuire) TOO TALL ALICE written by Barbara Worton and illustrated by Dom Rodi (Great Little Books, LLC) has been awarded the silver Moonbeam medal in the category of Mind-Body-Spirit/Self-Esteem, and deservedly so.

In an engaging story, author Barbara Worton has created Alice, an eight-year-old girl who is way taller than the other girls in her class. Alice finds it within herself to overcome her awkwardness and embarrassment, and it’s this message— the magic of believing in yourself—that is an important and timely theme in the book.

Worton believes self-esteem is the greatest gift in life. “Self-esteem,” she says, “is the certainty right down to your DNA that you are just perfect as you are and have the right to be accepted, respected, and live a happy and successful life.” And that message undoubtedly comes through in TOO TALL ALICE, officially released in March of this year (http://www.tootallalice.com).
The Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards bring increased recognition to exemplary children’s books and their creators, and supports childhood literacy and lifelong reading. The Awards recognize and reward the best of these books and bring them to the attention of parents, booksellers, librarians, and to children worldwide.

Last month, Worton awarded over 90 copies of her book, bookmarks and “I’m just right for me wristbands” to fourth graders who entered a “Stand Tall With Too Tall Alice” contest by submitting “the coolest 3 things about being me.”

The entries were heartwarming, funny, and disarming—with many of the fourth graders writing that it’s their great dancing, hard work at school, willingness to stand up for what’s right and be a good friend, and just being themselves that makes them cool.
The Moonbeam Awards ceremony is being held on October 10, 2009 as part of the West Virginia Book Festival in Charleston, West Virginia.
